Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, has pointed out that the National Council for Peace and Order’s (NCPO) request to compete for the position of First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives underscores the government’s vulnerabilities. Anutin emphasized that Kla Tham’s ambition to secure this key legislative role is indicative of a fragile ruling coalition and suggested that a shift in governmental attitude is necessary, stressing that no single party currently holds a majority.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin addressed the implications of Bhumjaithai Party’s exit from the coalition government, highlighting that this move has resulted in a slimmer majority for the ruling body. This precarious balance has enabled the Kla Tham Party to propose a candidate for the First Deputy Speaker position with greater confidence. Anutin noted that the Kla Tham Party has consistently maintained that even a strong government can become weakened over time.
In response to potential conflicts with the Pheu Thai Party, Anutin remarked that any issues arising from their refusal to acquiesce to Kla Tham’s aspirations are not directly relevant to his party. He advised that such matters should be resolved within the Kla Tham Party itself. However, he cautioned that unless there is a change in mindset towards coalition governance, the lack of a singular majority could persistently lead to challenges.
