Khon kaen: The Commander of Army Region 2 recently convened a crucial meeting with the governors of 20 northeastern provinces to bolster drone control measures and safeguard key locations across the region.
According to Thai News Agency, Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang, the Commander of the Second Army Region, disclosed that the meeting with the governors was conducted via a Video Teleconference (VTC) system. The primary focus was on implementing stringent measures to eliminate unauthorized drone activity. The governors, who also serve as Directors of the Provincial Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), were instructed to work closely with police, the private sector, and the public to acquire anti-drone technology to protect critical areas such as provincial halls, stadiums, armories, police stations, bus stations, and airports.
The plan includes setting up patrols to identify unauthorized individuals in sensitive areas. Those apprehended will face serious charges of terrorism and spying, with penalties potentially reaching the death sentence. Legal protocols will ensure thorough investigations to unearth the root causes and identify those responsible for such activities. There is suspicion of involvement by third parties related to recent crackdowns on call center gangs and gambling dens in neighboring countries. In cases involving foreigners, prosecution will be pursued in Thailand, followed by deportation and blacklisting to prevent re-entry.
Lt. Gen. Boonsin also commented on the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border, noting the reinforcement of Cambodian troops. He assured that Thai forces remain on high alert around the clock.
Furthermore, Col. Richa Suksuwanon, deputy army spokesman, reported the destruction of explosives and shells at the summit of Phu Khuea Mountain earlier today. Both Cambodian and Thai authorities have been informed to prevent any misunderstandings regarding the operation.
