Bangkok: Coach Oat emphasized the benefits for Thailand’s women’s volleyball team despite their loss to China in a friendly match.
According to Thai News Agency, the match, held to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Thailand and China, served as a warm-up for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship. Mr. Surawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports, officiated the opening ceremony, which featured dragon and naga parades symbolizing the strong relationship between the two nations. Fans from both countries enjoyed the lively atmosphere during the free event.
Under the guidance of “Coach Oat” Kiattipong Rachatakeangkrai, the Thai team, featuring players like Chatchu-on Moksri and Ajcharaporn Kongyot, faced a formidable Chinese team led by Gong Xiangyu and Li Yingying. The match consisted of four sets, with Thailand losing the first three sets 25-22, 25-22, and 25-18. The fourth set was a mixed-team exhibition, highlighting camaraderie and sportsmanship.
Post-match, Coach Oat praised China’s performance and the valuable experience gained by the Thai team. He is set to announce the final 14-player roster for the World Championship. Thai players Chatchu-on Moksri and Thatdao Nuekjang expressed their readiness to improve and urged support for their World Championship campaign.
For the upcoming World Championship, Thailand will compete in Group A alongside Egypt, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Matches are scheduled for August 22, 24, and 26 at the Indoor Stadium, Huamark. Meanwhile, China will compete in Group F, with matches in Chiang Mai against Mexico, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic on August 23, 25, and 27.
