Lawyers Demand NACC Probe into MP Chaichana’s Alleged Misconduct

Nakhon Si Thammarat: Two lawyers have filed a complaint with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to investigate MP Chaichana Dechadecho for serious ethical violations. The complaint stems from an incident where Chaichana allegedly attacked a businessman during an ordination ceremony. Additionally, the lawyers are urging the police to investigate the Nakhon Si Thammarat police chief for allegedly threatening to assist in covering up the incident, advocating for the case to be transferred to the Crime Suppression Division.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chaow Meekhud, a lawyer and former deputy spokesperson of the Democrat Party, along with Ms. Aranya Chanddee, a lawyer representing the victim, Mr. Nares Wongsetkul, submitted a letter to the NACC. They are requesting an investigation into the conduct of Mr. Chaichana, who is an MP for Nakhon Si Thammarat, Democrat Party member, and Chairman of the House of Representatives Police Committee. The incident in question took place during an ordination ceremony at the Khuan Phang Subdistrict Administrative Organization. The lawyers allege that Mr. Chaichana and his associates attacked Mr. Wongsetkul and attempted to use Chaichana’s political influence to pressure the victim into withdrawing his complaint.

Mr. Chaow detailed that the incident occurred on May 23, 2025, with supporting evidence, including diary records, audio clips, and witnesses. He emphasized that there was significant pressure on the victim to withdraw his complaint, involving both the perpetrator’s family and local influence. This is reportedly not an isolated incident, as previous threats made by Mr. Chaichana during election periods have surfaced, with some cases being withdrawn under similar circumstances. An earlier case in February involved threats against Mr. Nattawat, resulting in a withdrawn complaint after alleged coercion.

Mr. Chaow argued that such conduct reflects a broader issue where politicians exploit their positions to intimidate opponents and stifle dissent to maintain power. He called upon the NACC to act swiftly under Section 234(1) and determine if the behavior constitutes a serious breach of ethics under Sections 12 and 17. Mr. Chaow stressed that the House of Representatives should be a sanctuary for MPs, not a stronghold for those wielding undue influence, and that the role of Police Commission Chairman should not be a tool to obstruct justice.

Additionally, Mr. Chaow and Ms. Aranya approached the Royal Thai Police Office to request an investigation into Pol. Maj. Gen. Charut Sarutyaporn, Commander of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Police. They allege that he engaged in threatening and intimidating the victim to aid Mr. Chaichana, advocating for the case to be transferred to the Crime Suppression Division.
