Ministry of Foreign Affairs Leads Diplomatic Visit to Sisaket Province

Sisaket: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs led a delegation of diplomats from 33 countries party to the Ottawa Convention to visit Sisaket Province to survey the damage caused by the use of landmines on the Cambodian side. Mr. Maris Sangiampong, Minister of Foreign Affairs, along with Mr. Rasme Chalichan, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, spearheaded the delegation, which included diplomats from ASEAN member states, signatories of the Ottawa Convention, representatives from international organizations, and civil society organizations focusing on demining efforts.

According to Thai News Agency, a total of 36 diplomats and representatives participated, representing 33 countries, one organization, two international organizations, and media from both Thailand and abroad. Prior to the trip, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs conducted a briefing session where Mr. Maris expressed gratitude to the delegation for participating and emphasized the importance of gaining firsthand understanding of the landmine situation in Sisaket Province.

The itinerary began with a visit to Phumisorn Wittaya School in Sao Thong Chai Subdistrict, Kantharalak District, where the delegation received comprehensive briefings from the Royal Thai Army, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Interior. Following this, the delegation, along with media representatives, proceeded to Phu Makhuea and the base of operations to examine the terrain and observe the demining activities conducted by the Humanitarian Mine Action Unit. The visit concluded with a survey of the damage inflicted by landmines originating from the Cambodian side.
