Bangkok: Kajiki has intensified into a typhoon, causing more rain in all regions of Thailand. The Meteorological Department issued an announcement this morning stating that Tropical Storm Kajiki in the South China Sea has intensified into a typhoon, warning 57 provinces to watch out for heavy to very heavy rain from August 24-27, 2025.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Somkuan Tonjan, Director of the Meteorological Department’s Weather Forecast Division, revealed that Tropical Storm “Kajiki” over the central South China Sea has intensified into a typhoon. It is moving westward, slightly northward, and is likely to move into the Gulf of Tonkin before making landfall in northern Vietnam and Laos between August 25 and 26.
The front of the storm will begin to affect Thailand starting today, particularly in the eastern part of the Northeast. Clouds will increase, followed by rain before spreading to the Central region, including Bangkok and its vicinity, the Eastern region, and the Southern region over the next few days.
The Meteorological Department warns that the influence of the storm, combined with the strong southwest monsoon, will cause increased rainfall and heavy to very heavy rain in many areas, particularly in hillsides, low-lying areas, and near waterways, which are at risk of flash floods and landslides.
For the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand, waves will be 2-3 meters high and higher in areas with thunderstorms. Small boats should stay ashore during this period.
The Meteorological Department is urging people in 57 high-risk provinces to closely monitor warning announcements and prepare for increased rainfall.
